Belait A- KB grab vital comeback win over Tutong

BELAIT A – KB remain in contention for the 5.11 National Day Challenge Trophy after a 90-78 comeback victory over Tutong last night.

Belait A – KB were behind most of the match before a big fourth quarter to outscore their opponents 39-16 to claim the triumph at the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) court in Batu Bersurat.

Lim Liang Wei and Lim Chun Sian came up big with 12 points each in the decisive frame for Belait A – KB. The former finished with a game-high of 40 points while Chun Sian notched 21 points – all coming from behind the arc.

Choo Yung Kang was the other in double figures for Belait A -KB with 11 points in the win.

On the other hand, Darren Chai paced Tutong with 23 points while Md Zainul Ashyraf Hj Hussin added 21 points.

Khoo Chin Kai was also in double figures with 15 points to his name in a losing effort.

The win was the third for Belait A – KB and puts them in a three-way tie with Brunei Muara A and Temburong heading into the last round of matches tonight.

Belait A – KB can clinch the title should they overcome Temburong in the first game at 7.30pm due to a better head-to-head against Brunei Muara A, who will face Brunei Muara B in the second match at 9pm.

Brunei Muara A can finish at the top of the podium should they win their encounter coupled with a Temburong victory.

Meanwhile, the earlier game last night saw Brunei Muara B pick up their first win of the competition after fending off a late rally by Belait B – Seria to triumph 75-64.

Brunei Muara B were firmly in control with a 67-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter but suffered a scare after an offensive outburst by Justin Ling Jia Haur – who caught fire and knocked down six treys to score 22 of his team’s 25 in the frame to finish with a game-high of 36 points.

Kevin Tay was the topscorer for Brunei Muara B with 30 points in the victory.
