SAVE the date for the OzSports Festival as it brings a morning full of sports activities to Bandarku Ceria on March 26.

The Australian High Commission is working with Sports Camps Australia (SCA) and a range of local partners to bring the sport fun to kids at the Taman SOAS from 8am - 12pm.

The event was officially launched this morning by the Australian High Commission at the Royal Brunei Recreation Club (RBRC).

“There is nothing more Australian than being outdoors and enjoying a sunny morning playing sports with family and friends,” said H.E. Nicola Rosenblum, the Australian High Commissioner, during the launch.

“So to us. Aussie sports and Bandarku Ceria were such a natural fit!

“We’re pleased to be bringing together a wide range of sports - from cricket to netball to rugby - to the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan these coming school holidays,” she added.

“We hope that families will come down, have some fun and find a sport that their children want to keep playing in the future,” continued Rosenblum.

The OzSports Festival is open to the public and is free of charge. Children aged 5-12 are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure that they get an event t-shirt.

They can register at www.bruneidarussalam.embassy.gov.au and more information can be obtained from www.facebook.com/AustraliainBruneiDarussalam and www.instagram.com/duta.oz.bn.

First SCA Camps in Brunei

The OzSports Festival is just the tip of the iceberg as it kicks off a week of OzSports events.

SCA will be working with a range of local partners to host football, basketball and swimming workshops including a multisport programme - Phizz Kids - throughout the week.

The camps are as follows:-

  • SCA Nike FZ Basketball Camp at Fitness Zone Kiulap from March 27
  • SCA Nike Phizz Kids Multisport at Fitness Zone Kiulap from March 30
  • SCA Nike Football Camp at RBRC from March 28 to be conducted by Abbas Saad
  • SCA Nike ISB Stroke Clinic at International School Brunei from March 31 to be conducted by Brant Best

“SCA was established with the view to provide opportunities for children across all ages and ability within a fun environment,” said Mark Wilton, the CEO of SCA, as stated in a press release.

“Our camps allow children to enhance their current skill level, and try different sports to see which one suits them best.

“SCA has always had a passion for developing sport in Southeast Asia, from grassroots development to elite level athletes and we are excited to be bringing our camps to Brunei,” he added.

“We feel that there is a lot of passion, determination and a desire to be good at sports here, and we hope that all children are given the opportunity to come and be trained by some of the best coaches,” concluded Wilton.
