FINAL selection for the national netball team was held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas last Friday.

National netball coach Thilaka Jinadasa told BruSports recently that she had already chosen her best 15 players for the team this year.

However, the squad list will only be confirmed and announced after the fitness test tomorrow.

"We managed to identify the players after the selection but they have to go through the fitness test soon and only after the fitness test then we can finalise," said Jinadasa.

"My players have improved a lot for the past weeks, but from my point of view , they still have to play more tactically and we need more match experience in order to do that," added the Sri Lankan.

The national netball team went to Sabah earlier this month to play a friendly series.

The Royal Bees had a good outing winning all three games against the Malaysian state's netball teams in Kota Kinabalu.

They kicked off their campaign a 59-28 win over the Sabah state team at the Arena Futsal Yayasan Sabah.

They followed that up with a 50-25 win over the same team before beating Sabah Mixed team 47-21 in their third game.

Jinadasa felt that there is still plenty of work to be done.

"My goals are to work more on our strategies and if our opponents identify our strategy then we need to look for next options available," said Jinadasa.

"We have to create these situations and practise them. We will have the chance to do that when the Sri Lankan school team visit us next month and we must work on these issues.

"I hope that after the Sri Lanka school tour, we will be able to evaluate again what are our short comings and plan further," she added.

The national team’s latest achievement was finishing second at the South Korea Invitational Netball tournament in September after losing 30-23 to eventual winners Hong Kong.

They also improved their ranking at the Asian Netball Championships in Bangkok in the same month when they finished sixth - bettering their previous ranking of seventh.
