SOBD National Games kick off with 10-pin bowling

THE 9th Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD) National Games began yesterday with the 10-pin bowling event.

Four categories - doubles, unified doubles, team and unified team - were contested at the Utama Bowling Centre.

The doubles event was contested in the morning and further split into two groups with the duo of Muhammad Faiz Awang Sapar and Mohd Khairruddin Hj Abd Hamid clinching the first with 743 pinfalls over three rounds.

Md Arif Hj Ahmad and Kan Tat Weng placed second with 637 pinfalls.

The second group was won by the pair of Md Ulfee Zufri Safri Mohdzar and Md Syami Hj Jumat with 505 pinfalls.

Nurhafeezah Zaini and Khairul Sabirin finished in second spot with a score of 453 pinfalls.

Over in the unified doubles event, Muhammad Haziq Awang Sapar and Muhammad Nazri Mohd Yusri finished at the top of the podium with 673 pinfalls.

Md Hariz Hj Hassan and SIti Aszira Ariffin were second best with 57 pins fewer.

The team of Md Arif, Kan, Md Samri Mahli, Md Alif Hj Taha and Ak Abd Azim Pg Hj Rahman registered a total of 956 pinfalls over two rounds to win the team event.

Muhammad Faiz, Mohd Khairuddin, Fadhli Alwi Hj Amit, Winnie Koay Shi Wei and Khairul Sabirin Sha’arani made up the other team and were 37 pinfalls back.

As for the unified team event, Muhammad Hannan Hasnan, Md Syami Hj Jumat, Nurhafeezah Zaini and Muhammad Nazri Mohd Yusri combined for 618 pinfalls to pip three other teams for the title.

The annual Games will culminate tomorrow with four other sports - athletics, badminton, bocce and football - to be contested at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium of the RBPF Headquarters in Gadong.
