THE national netball team got their friendly game series off to a good start by defeating Sri Lanka's Presbyterian Girls School 81-14 yesterday.

The Royal Bees dominated throughout the game and their captain Siti Marhayati Ahmad credited the whole team for the excellent start to the competitive series.

"It was a team performance and everyone is supporting each other so it makes it easier for me and everyone," said the captain.

The national team started off strongly in the first quarter scoring 26 points at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

The team continued their dominance throughout the remaining quarters and were clearly the better side of the two.

Sri Lanka's Presbyterian Girls School head coach WDS Bandara applauded the Royal Bees for their outstanding performance.

"With how they played today (Tuesday), I think they (Brunei) can challenge the Asian teams within the next few years...maybe in three years," he said.

"They are still building up as a team and this team will be the base for Brunei.

"The players have good strength, speed, balance and coordination and they are very good," he added.

Bandara added that his team will produce a better performance in the coming matches.

"Brunei is quite strong for our team but my players understood how they play and I am certain they will play better in the upcoming matches," he concluded.

The national team will play their second match tonight at the Multipurpose Hall at 7pm.
