TEAM 88 B defeated Team 88 A 2-1 (21-13, 18-21, 21-19) in the final to be crowned the winner of the 7th NBT Trophy Sepak Takraw tournament yesterday.
The champions defeated Sengkurong B 2-0 (21-15,21-15) in the semi-final earlier on the same day at the Multipurpose Hall of the Menglait Sports Complex in Gadong.
Meanwhile, Team 88 A beat Sengkurong C 2-0 (21-7, 21-15) in the other last-four match to set a final date.
Mohd Hassan Rahman, the manager for both Team 88 A and B teams was pleased with his charges performance at the two-day tournament.
“I am very happy of course…both of my teams played in the final and they worked very hard for it and they were serious about winning it too,” said Mohd Hassan Rahman in an interview with BruSports yesterday.
“The club (including Team 88 C) have prepared continuously since last year…and they have played a number of friendly matches in Sabah prior to this tournament…so they are in good form at the moment.
“I would like to thank PESTABARU (Brunei Darussalam Sepak Takraw Association) for organising this tournament and giving the players the platform to test themselves after long and hard training…but I feel that this year’s competition is a bit less competitive than the previous ones…I am not sure why…maybe because there are fewer clubs participating this time around,” he added.
A total of 16 teams competed at the annual tournament, the others were Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) A, MS PDB B, MS PDB C, Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) A, MS ABDB B, MSSSB A, MSSSB B, MSSSB C, Merangking, Pelangi and Sengkurong A.
