NFT U20 fall to CAT Telecom in first warm-up game

THE national Under-20 futsal team fell to a 7-1 defeat at the hands of Communication Authority of Thailand (CAT) Telecom in Bangkok last night in their first warm-up game ahead of next week’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-20 Futsal Championship.

The team will play another warm-up game against Bangkok BTS tomorrow before taking on Uzbekistan in their last warm-up game on the next day.

The junior national team trailed 6-0 at the break but improved in the second half to give the hosts more of a fight.

“The players were nervous in the first half, especially since this was the first experience playing internationally for some of them,” said national futsal coach Qusmaini Noor Hj Rusli in a press release from NFABD.

“Their confidence and motivation came back in the second half and we managed to end that half 1-1,” he added.

“We will have to learn from our mistakes and strengthen our defence.

“We also have to increase our quality of play and convert our goal scoring opportunities,” continued Qusmaini.

Brunei will be up against Afghanistan in their first Group A game on May 16 before taking on Iraq the following day.

The sultanate will take on hosts Thailand on May 18. The team meet Bahrain on May 19 before finishing group stage play against Malaysia the next day.
