MyTown Eating House beat SSB Honey Carsmart A to set up final date with Winrun Tyres

MYTOWN Eating House used a strong second quarter to run away with a 67-45 victory over SSB Honey Carsmart A in the semi-finals of the GRÂND Women Open Basketball Tournament last night.

It sets up a meeting against the unbeaten Winrun Tyres, who defeated Indera En Voy Transportation 80-63 in the other last-four matchup, in the title-decider on Wednesday.

Lim Giuk Ting and Nurfanna Yvonne Abdullah did most of the damage for MyTown with 24 and 22 points respectively in the win.

Marsya topscored for SSB Honey Carsmart A with 13 points, all coming in the third quarter, while Willie was the other in double figures with 10 points to her name in the loss.

MyTown had carried a 14-6 advantage into the second period before SSB Honey Carsmart A clawed their way back.

However, MyTown then took control midway through to go on a blistering run scoring 17 unanswered points in over a span five minutes.

SSB Honey Carsmart A were unable to get anything going and were not helped by getting into the penalty early in the frame.

In contrast, MyTown had good ball movement to find the open player to score.

Simma then ended the run seconds before the halftime buzzer but lead had ballooned to 37-17 then.

SSB Honey Carsmart A switched to 1-2-2 defence after the interval in hopes of covering the outside shooting of their opponents.

MyTown took things into the paint and dominated the boards for second chance points.

They extended their lead to as many as 29 points before SSB Honey Carsmart A switched to man-to-man defence.

It slowed their opponents down a little and Marsya went on a personal scoring run - netting the last 13 points in the period for her side to pull within 57-34.

MyTown would use the clock wisely in the decisive frame and SSB Honey Carsmart A never got closer than 20 points resulting in their first defeat in three games.

Meanwhile, the semi-finals for the GRÂND Veteran Basketball Tournament will be contested tonight.

Little Wonder Enterprise will take on Fitness Zone in the first matchup at 7pm.

The second last-four encounter pits Digimark against Concepts 3B3G at 8.30pm.
