National Under-15 football team begin AFF campaign next week

THE national Under-15 football team will begin their ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Under-15 Championship campaign against Timor Leste next Monday.
 
The 23-player team led by head coach Stephen Ng Heng Seng left the Sultanate yesterday to compete at the July 7-22 tournament that will be held in Chonburi, Thailand. 
 
Brunei are drawn in B alongside Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia and the Philippines in the while pooled in group A are defending champions Australia, Indonesia Laos, Myanmar, Singapore and three-time winners Thailand.
 
 “This is a long-term development team for future Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, and the main aim is to give these boys some international exposure,” said Ng prior to their departure yesterday. 
 
The national Under-15 team will face Vietnam on July 12 before taking on Malaysia two days later. 
 
They will play Cambodia on July 16 before ending their group stage play against the Philippines on July 18. 
 
Present at the Brunei International Airport in Berakas to send the team off was National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Acting General Secretary Pg Md Amirrizal Pg Hj Mahmud, NFABD officials and the team’s family and friends.
