THE Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) were crowned the champions of the National Regu Under-25 Sepak Takraw Championship yesterday.

MS PDB defeated their rivals Sengkurong 21-14, 21-18 in the final held at the Menglat Sports Complex in Gadong.

MS PDB, who are made up of Southeast Asian (SEA) Games bound athletes: Mohd Alifuddin Jamaluddin, Md Azri Abd Harith and Abdul Muiz Hj Nordin, had a perfect campaign winning all their matches at the two-day tournament.

MS PDB head coach Maimom Hj Mohammad was confident that his charges would walk away with the title this year.

"We didn't get to prepare as well as the previous years, but we managed to get some friendly competitive matches prior to this tournament," Maimom told the BruSports News after the match.

"Our team is made up of national players, they have been preparing on their own, so they are in a very good condition.

"Sengkurong are a very strong team but the only difference in the match is that our players have more and better experience. Overall it was a good tournament, and it was surprisingly very competitive this year,” he added.

Organised by the Brunei Darussalam Sepak Takraw Association (PESTABARU) and Department of Youth and Sports (JBS), 14 teams with the others Brunei Darussalam Sports School A, B, C, D and E, Tawakal A, B and C, Muara Spurs A and B Muara, Pelangi and Brunei 88, competed for top honours.

The tournament was held in conjunction of this year's Youth Day celebration.

Present as the guest of honour to give away the trophy, medals and cash prizes was the president of PESTABARU, Pg Hj Alihassan Pg DSLJ Hj Abas.
