SHOOTING Stars Brunei conducted a one-day basketball clinic to promote the sport and encourage more participation at the Rimba II Secondary School near Jalan Tungku Link on Wednesday.

The two-hour clinic, which was conducted by the coaches from Shooting Stars Brunei and the teachers of the school, provided basic basketball drills and exercise for the students.

Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) was also present at the clinic to support the event by providing free balls to the school.

The balls were presented by BBA Head of Referee Hing Swee Foh to the Deputy Principal of the School Hj Mohd Hairol Azaman Hj Pungut.

“There is more to basketball than just the game itself,” Ken Han, the founder of the Shooting Stars Brunei, told BruSports News during the event.

“We have drills, warm up, exercise and games which make the whole experience fun for the kids and they are really enjoying it.

“Our main goal is to get more kids and students to get involved in basketball and we are here today (Wednesday) not to make them great athletes, but to introduce basketball and make them love the sport,” he added.

“This is our first clinic at a government school, and we hope this will be the first of many clinics for us to organise in the future.

“We will be here once every four weeks to assist the teachers to run the basketball class and hopefully guide them to build a team and school club,” continued Han.

Han also added that the clinic was free of charge and is part of their corporate social responsibility programme.

“I was approached by one of the teachers here to conduct the clinic and we are more than happy to help them out,” said Han.

Dk Shiqah Pg Hj Hashim, the teacher who coordinated the basketball programme, extended her gratitude to Shooting Stars Brunei and BBA in helping the school run the basketball class.

“We are very glad to have Shooting Stars Brunei conduct the clinic at our school. We are very thankful for their time and effort,” said Dk Shiqah.

“Since I announced that Shooting Stars Brunei will be conducting a clinic, the number of people signing up for basketball for their ECA (Extra Curriculum Activity) has increased a lot.

“We only had four students before, but I am very happy to see more than 15 students turn up for the clinic,” added the teacher.
