LOCAL fighter Adib Sulaiman will be making his Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) debut at the Ultimate Beatdown Fighting Championship in Johor, Malaysia on Saturday.

The 26-year old, who is a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, will be fighting under the banner of the Busiido MMA club, one of the most successful MMA clubs in the Sultanate.

Speaking to Brusports recently, Adib said that the preparation for the fight has been well and that the whole team at Busiido has been very helpful.

“I feel good… the preparation was excellent, the training was tough a few months ago but for now I am only doing light training and I just need to stay out of injury,” said Adib.

Adib will be up against the more experienced fighter, Calsen Choong from Penang, who holds a record of two wins out of two fights.

“I will be utilising my grappling skill for this fight and will go for as many takedowns as I can, but at the same time I have also been working on my stand-up game,” he said.

Adib added that to be housed in the same club with excellent fighters such as country's most accomplished BJJ competitor, Ahmad Faez Anuar (Eazy) and local MMA rising star Mohd Nurhidayat Abdul, has helped him ease into the tough and demanding training regime.

“I have been working on my kick-boxing too and Eazy was in the national boxing team, he has been prepping me in both striking and ground match for the past months,” continued the gold medalist at the 2015 Head Hunters Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Sabah.

“Nurhidayat too has been very helpful, especially as a sparring partner and as well as for pad training…he has been in this field for quite some time now, it is good to have him around,” said Adib of Nurhidayat who is still undefeated after three fights.

Malaysia's longest-running MMA promotion, Ultimate Beatdown will be held at the Plaza Sentosa in Johor Bahru.
