Medal rush for Brunei BJJ in Kota Kinabalu

BRUNEI'S Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) representatives  made a splash at the Copa de Borneo BJJ and Brazilian Luta Livre championship over the weekend in Kota Kinabalu.

BJJ powerhouse Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) were the biggest contributors after they bagged three gold, six silver and two bronze medals at the two-day event held at the Palm Square Centre Point.

Belait district based BJJ club, the Refinery, claimed one gold, four silver and five bronze, while ADN MMA chipped in two gold medals and Wolfpack MMA from Tutong won two silver medals.

The highlight of the tournament was when Nobel Lee of the Refinery and Zaim Roslan of Khalifa MMA won their purple and blue belt absolute nogi categories respectively and brought home the championship belts for Brunei.

Mohd Saufi Jay of ADN MMA also managed to win the belt for the country winning his bouts in the white belt absolute division.

Zaim Roslan -  absolute blue belt (gold) & under 73.5kg nogi (gold)

Eva Azriman  - girls under 16 year old gi (gold)

Fakhrul Islam Dahari - white belt U76 - nogi (silver) & absolute (bronze)

Zaim Norzairi - purple belt under 70kg gi (silver).

Hadi Haseri - blue belt u76kg gi (silver)

Rasimoon Hj Adinin - blue belt u82kg (silver)

Nadine Kong - girls under 16 gi (silver)

Fauzi Salleh - blue belt u64kg gi (bronze)

Noble - boys under 12 gi (bronze)

Jannah Thaqifah - white belt under 48kg nogi (silver)

Rynnol Haikal - white belt under 70kg nogi (silver)

The Refinery:

Nobel Lee - purple belt nogi absolute (gold), gi absolute (silver) and gi u76kg (bronze)

Angel Lepi - blue belt absolute nogi (silver), 58.1kg nogi (silver) and 60.1kg gi (bronze)

Nicholas Gumma - blue belt u79.5kg nogi (silver) and u82.3kg gi (bronze)

Abi Umamah - purple belt u70kg gi (bronze)

Marel Meludin - white belt u50kg gi (bronze)
