10th BIMPNT-EAGA Friendship Games open on Friday

HOSTS Brunei will be represented by 138 athletes at the 10th BIMPNT-EAGA Friendship Games 2018 this weekend.

They will be competing in eight sports - aquatics, athletics, karatedo, lawn bowls, pencak silat, sepak takraw, taekwondo and wushu - at the Dec 7-9 multi-sport competition.

The flag handing ceremony was held earlier today at the Dewan Digadong of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Yang Berhormat Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin handed over the Brunei flag to chef de mission Awang Haji Muhd Nurul Azrin bin Haji Gani.

The lawn bowls event will be the first sport to be contested starting tomorrow at the Lawn Bowls Centre in Brunei while the opening ceremony will be held at the Indoor Stadium on Friday morning.

BIMPNT-EAGA stands for Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-Northern Territory-East ASEAN Growth Area.

Brunei returned home with a four gold and two silver medals form the last edition of the games held in Samarinda, East Kalimantan two years ago.

The Sultanate’s best performance was during the 6th edition in 2006, which they hosted, where they won a total of 12 gold, 15 silver and 16 bronze medals.
