Eazy: MMA athletes battle ready for ONE Warrior Series

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

BRUNEI Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) head coach Ahmed Faez 'Eazy' Anuar believes that his charges are ready for their fights at the ONE Warrior Series in Singapore on Tuesday.

Mohd Adib Pehin Hj Sulaiman will be fighting a tough competitor from the Philippines Ismael Bandiwan of Tribal Torigi in the straw weight division while Mohd Norhidayat Abdul will take on Indonesia’s top prospect Toreq Rayis of Bali MMA also in the same division.

“The training camp is not much different from everything else because we always try to stay ready 365 days a year. It is still the same routine, throughout the off season we still train hard,” said Eazy.

“We have taken up the strength and conditioning aspect a bit higher nowadays. We got steady routines now.

“Track days are still going on, but we are bit smarter in a sense that our lactic capacity, the duration of the strength and conditioning for all the three rounds are getting better. The training is now moving towards fight specific training and functional stuff.

“As usual when it comes to one month away from the actual fight day then we do more specific training, anticipating what our opponent is going to do but for most part we focus on what our athletes can do and we try not to worry so much what their opponents can do. We prioritise more on what we can do,” added the head coach.

Eazy, who is also a contender at the ONE Warrior Series, will not be competing in this card as his opponent declined the offer to fight him, but the Khalifa MMA founder will be leading the team in Singapore at the tournament.

ONE Warrior Series, a platform under ONE Championship, is an international mixed martial arts event that is based in Singapore and is currently on its seventh series cycle.

Adib, 28, holds an MMA record of four wins and one loss (two wins and one loss in the ONE Warrior Series).

Meanwhile, 29-year-old Mohd Norhidayat, hold Brunei’s best record of six wins and one loss (one win in ONE Warrior Series.

Mohd Norhidayat is coming off a victory in April defeating Sonya Kongkatonk of Thailand.

On the other hand, Adib defeated Rungrot Posi also from Thailand in his previous fight in February.
