NATIONAL fencer Md Anaqi Danish returned with a bronze medal from the Knight Fencing Championship in Bogor, Indonesia in early October.

He had placed 12th after the first round before winning the next three matches in the men's individual sabre event.

Anaqi then fell 15-10 in the semi-finals against eventual champion Ricky Dishisullimah.

He is glad and thankful to be back in action.

"First things first, alhamdulillah and thank you Allah SWT for this achievement," said Anaqi in an interview with BruSports News.

"I am glad to be back in fencing and started my training early this year.

"I may have shown a good performance but there is a lot of space to improve," he added.

"I'm definitely looking forward to another great result for the next competition.

"I hope it’s time for fencing in Brunei to shine with all the hard work," he continued.

Anaqi went on to thank his coach, Brunei Fencing Federation, family and friends who have supported his journey from day one.

His older brother Mohammad Haziq was the other Bruneian at the tournament.

He placed seventh after the first round and managed to advance into the quarters.

However, he was dropped 15-12 by silver medallist Irfandi Nurkamil.
