Brunei bring home one gold from ASEAN Para Games

BRUNEI returned with a haul of one gold, three silver and two bronze medals from the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Thailand.

The gold came from Kamarul Ariffin Hj Abd Ghaffar in the TPB2 Tenpin Bowling Single event after he recorded a total of 1011 pinfalls to finish top of the podium in the field of 12 participants.

Tanapoom Pugtra of Thailand took the silver on 994 pinfalls while compatriot Saidin Hj Damit bagged the bronze with 967 pinfalls at the Esplanade Ratchada Shopping Mall.

They then teamed up to capture silver in the TPB2 + TPB2 Tenpin Bowling Double event for a total of 2041 pinfalls.

Indonesia took the gold with 2061 pinfalls while Thailand won the bronze after registering 2025 pinfalls.

The other medals were from the athletics team at the His Majesty the King's 80th Birthday Anniversary Stadium in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Dyg Nor Hensan Hj Mataha launched her way to a new Games record in the women's shot put F11 event with a distance of 7.51m to take the runner-up spot.

She has held the record of 7.13m set in 2022.

But it was Alyana Nunez of the Philippines who finished top of the podium with her throw of 7.85m in the field of eight athletes.

Hj Mohd Rudy Izman Hj Badar clinched silver in the men's shot put F53-54 with his throw of 6.14m.

Last but not least, the bronze medal was courtesy of Alihan Muda after he managed a distance of 15.04m in the men's javelin F34 para athletic.

Brunei sent a total of 12 athletes to compete in three sports – swimming being the other – at the January 21 – 26 biennial competition.
