BRUNEI end their SUKMA XXII campaign in Selangor with a total haul of four silver and six bronze medals.
National swimmer Joel Ling was the biggest winner after taking home two silver and one bronze medals at the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre.
His first silver medal was from the men’s 50m backstroke event where he finished with a time of 27.07 seconds just behind Sarawak’s Daniel Scott Williams on 26.81s.
Ling’s other runner-up finished was in the 100m backstroke event where he also finished second to Williams.
It was a photo finish as he managed a time of 57.85s - just 0.78s behind.
He bagged the bronze from the 200m backstroke event with a time of 2:09.49.
Meanwhile, Sharmeen Mohd Mharvin settled for bronze in the women’s 50m backstroke with a time of 30.39s.
Over at the IDCC Ideal Convention Centre, wushu athletes Abel Lim and Walid Lachkar won a silver medal each in their respective events.
Lim tallied 9.593 points to finish runner-up to Pulau Pinang’s Wee Din Jun by a difference of 0.003 points in the men’s nanquan event.
Walid followed that up with a second place finish in the men’s daoshu + gunshu combined event with 19.236 points.
He managed 9.610 points in daoshu and following that up with 9.626 points in gunshu.
The pencak silat team delivered a total of three bronze medals at the Dewan Seri Sarjana, Universiti Tenaga National (UNITEN).
The trio of Nursyahindah Saiful Rizal, Nursyahirah Mawaddah Lutfi and Nursyakirah Mawaddah Mohd Fauzi won the Sultanate’s first medal in the women's regu event.
They defeated Penang 9.905 – 9.890 to advance to the semi-finals to confirm a podium finish.
Brunei then fell 9.890 – 9.925 against Sabah to see them take the joint-bronze.
Over in the men’s Class G tanding event, Mohammad Matin Adrian Awang Roy defeated Johor’s Harriz Naufal Md Fadly 66-62 to advance to the last-four.
However, he was disqualified in the semi-finals against Nik Muhammad Haiqal Nik Ameran of Terengganu leaving him with the joint-bronze.
Nur Asyifa Shabeqah Masli defeated Negeri Sembilan’s Solehah Abdullah 30-20 to progress to the semi-finals of the women’s Class B tanding event.
She then fell to Noor Waldina Mohd Rasidi of Federal Territories 52-32 to take the shared bronze.
The other bronze medal was courtesy of taekwondo athlete Muhammad Alwi Naqiuddin Md Nordi in the men’s Heavyweight +87kg category.
He started off with a 14-7, 8-9, 11-10 win against Selangor’s Muhammad Asyraf Dawisy to move into the last-eight.
It was back-to-back wins as he edged Kedah’s Muhammad Izdihar Hambali 8-0, 6-14, 6-6, with the winner decided through advantage attack in the final bout.
He settled for the joint-bronze after falling 18-0, 17-1 against defending champion AJ Ong Yang Yi of Sarawak.
The Sultanate was represented by 53 athletes contested in 11 sports at the August 15-24 multi-sport competition.
Hosts Selangor top the standings with a total tally of 100 gold, 72 silver and 71 bronze medals.
Federal Territories placed second with 51 gold, 54 silver and 54 bronze while Terengganu round up the top three with 42 gold, 44 silver and 35 bronze.
