STREET Roc International Basketball Services will be launching their first basketball training programme in the sultanate next week at the DAR Takaful Sports Complex in the capital.

It will be centered and catered to kids of both genders aged 7-16 years old.

Sessions will be held three times a week with the Skills Focus Training on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3.30 - 5pm and the Jr NBA Skills Development Training on Fridays from 3 - 5pm.

Locals will only have to pay a subsidised amount of $20/month while non-locals will have to pay $30/month.

The Jr NBA National Skills Development training is free of charge but will end in mid July where selection will be made for the Jr NBA National Clinic to be held in Kuala Lumpur.

Street Roc programme director Kevin Reece (pic)  felt that it has been a long time coming and is aimed at giving back to the kids.

“Since the first day I came to Brunei (in 2009), I feel this is an opportunity to give back to the kids and that is the foundation you got to start with,” said Reece in an interview with BruSports when met.

“I’ve always wanted to make basketball accessible to everybody. I hope it will be alright so that every kid will have that opportunity,” added the former national basketball coach.

“I’m trying to open up doors and use my networking and my knowledge to give back,” continued the American, whose best achievement as the national coach was clinching the country's first and only Borneo Cup title in 2011.

According to a press release, Street Roc believes that coaches must stay current, updated and always find new ways to captivate the youth in efforts to eliminate boredom and contentment but at the same time make it challenging and rewarding.

Participants will have the pleasure and privilege to be trained and coached by ex-national, professional, local and overseas coaches.

They will be also given access to the other parts of the facility such as lockers, swimming pool and gym.
