THE national lawn bowls team are confident of putting up a good show at the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur.

National lawn bowls coach Lokman Hj Md Salleh, who was appointed back in April believes that his players can finish on the podium at the biennial tournament.

“I trust all the players are able to give a good fight and win medals in this campaign… they are quite experienced players who have been in the field for many years,” said Lokman in an interview with BruSports News yesterday.

“All the players have been working hard for the past months with their training, but I believe that they must develop strong mentality to prepare for a bigger tournament like this one.

“The players are selected based on their achievements in regional and international tournaments over the past two years and they are the best players that we have in the country,” added Lokman when met at the Lawn Bowls Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Lokman expects Malaysia to be their biggest challenger in the tournament but he believes that Brunei have a bigger chance to dominate in singles events.

“Malaysia is strong in team events and playing on their home turf will give them a slight advantage against us, but I believe that we have better and more experienced players in singles events,” continued Lokman.

“We have Asian Bowl Championship next month and Commonwealth Games in April next year… but the focus now is on the SEA Games and I hope that we can deliver good performance this year,” he concluded.
