Good show by Hybrid Movement at Crossfit Opens

FOUR out of 11 athletes from Hybrid Movement Gym managed to progress into the quarter-finals of the Crossfit Opens 2021.

The Crossfit Opens is a global competition that began on March 11 and ran for three weeks with only the top 10% in Asia qualifying into the quarter-finals.

Each week a workout is released and all participating athletes will submit their scores.

Founder and head trainer of Hybrid Movement Darren Chai achieved the fittest man in Malaysia while his brother Daryl placed second.

For the Brunei category, Mayul Kamarul Ariffin, a trainer and athlete, achieved the fittest man in Brunei while Nina Juna was the fittest woman in the Sultanate.

Nina placed 71st overall in Asia and qualified for the semi-finals, which will be held from May 24 - Jun 14.

“We felt it was a good opportunity to push our fitness levels and to see how we rank in the global arena,” said Darren in an interview with BruSports News when met yesterday.

“We are excited that Nina qualified for the semi-finals and will be working on training her up for the upcoming virtual competition,” he added.

When asked about his personal performance, Darren replied: “I am glad with my overall performance but there is always room for improvement."

The other athletes from the gym that contested in the competition include Abhar Ahmad, Max Wee, Foong Zhiwei, Aimi Idris, Imi Ismail, Ron Junior Philip and Nureen Afeah Elyas.

Hybrid Movement Gym focuses on functional workouts that can be catered to every individual's needs and fitness level.
