Brunei to send 7 athletes to Commonwealth Games

BRUNEI will be sending seven athletes to compete at the 22nd Commonwealth Games from in Birmingham, England.

This was confirmed during the flag handing ceremony at the VIP Room, 1st Floor of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas on Wednesday morning.

His Royal Highness Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah, the president of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, handed the flag over to the country's chef de mission Pengiran Siti Amal Jariah Pengiran Matjinen.

Six athletes - Bahren Abdul Rahman, Mohd Hazmi Hj Idris, Hj Osman Hj Yahya, Hj Amli Hj Gafar, Esmawandy Brahim and Norafizah Matossen - will contest in lawn bowls and accompanied by their coach Lokman Mohd Salleh.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Nashrul Hj Abu Bakar is the only representative in weightlifting and joined by his coach Muhd Hadi Dinie Abd Rahman.

Brunei made their debut at the Games in 1990 and their last participation was four years ago in Gold Coast, Australia.
