Mizi then wind down the clock on the last possession to finish off a layup to put Ekonic up 43-26 at the interval.
Ekonic scored the first five points of the second half to lead by over 20 points.
It was one way traffic at that point as they opened up an unassailable lead at 67-39 at the end of the third stanza.
In the second match, OBS demolished Digimark 83-38 in Group B.
The competition resumes on Friday with two more matches.
MSSSBD will go up against Hoopsters in the women's category at 7pm.
The second game will see V United up against Yuni-ku in Group C at 8.30pm.
