Propel move one step closer to retaining title

PROPEL are one win away from retaining the women's title in the YOU.C1000 Cup after beating Hoopsters 69-33 on Monday.

They ran away with the match after outscoring their opponents 24-0 in the third stanza at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.

Propel had distributed scoring with four players hitting double digits.

Karyn Ho led the way with 14 points while Vanessa Pang added 13.

Rachael Lee contributed 12 - 10 of them in the third period - while Effie Lim notched 11 in the win.

For the Hoopsters, Lim Qi En was the topscorer with nine points.

The duo of Cheryll Lim and Leilani Stowers poured in eight each to a losing cause.

Propel missed a handful of open shots in the opening frame.

The game was tied at 11-11 after Khoo Mei Yan split her freethrows with over a minute left.

Ashley Chua knocked down a basket just before the buzzer to see Propel edge ahead 13-12 heading into the second quarter.

Propel went with man-to-man defence and went on a 12-0 run in a span of six minutes.

Hoopsters were turning the ball over under pressure and finally ended the rut courtesy of a Stowers basket with three minutes to the break.

The defending champions carried a 31-21 advantage at halftime.

They then held Hoopsters scoreless for around 11 minutes enroute to victory.

The competition resumes on Tuesday with Minimau taking on title contenders D'Harith at 7pm.
