TK/CJMM turn on the afterburners to surge into final

TK/CJMM ran away in the second half for a 107-75 win over Yuni-ku on Wednesday to advance to the final of the YOU.C1000 Cup.

Jomarie Corpuz, who had a quiet first half with only three points, finished with a game-high of 22 points for TK/CJMM.

Luis Gabriel Santos added 17 while Jonathan Doles contributed 14.

Cleverson Baguioro scored 13 while the duo of Reymundo Maquiraya and Gary Antonio dropped 11 apiece in the triumph.

On the other hand, Yuni-ku were without the trio of Kenny Lim, Matthew Jerickson and William Ching.

Francis Juelar tried to keep his side in the match with 21 points, which included five treys.

Andy Sim notched 16 while Jeremy Chu chipped in 15.

Kon Yee Hung was the other in double figures with 11 to his name.

It was a scrappy start to the match with both sides full of turnovers at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.

Doles beat the buzzer to put TK/CJMM up 14-13 going into the second frame.

TK/CJMM were attacking the paint with their size advantage and dominated the boards.

The game was tied at 28-28 after back-to-back threes by Juelar with four minutes to the interval.

TK/CJMM then scored six unanswered points and finished the half on a high after Maquiraya found Santos for a layup at the buzzer for a 42-34 lead.

Yuni-ku started the second half with seven straight points but the tempo of the game was slowed down with plenty of fouls.

TK/CJMM then went on a 9-0 run and they opened a double digit lead after Corpuz hit a trey from way downtown.

Yuni-ku looked lost and simply couldn't keep up.

All the momentum was with TK/CJMM as they built the gap to 72-54 at the end of the third.

They ran away with it by turning turnovers into quick points.

With the deficit almost at 30 points with under seven minutes left in regulation, Yuni-ku threw in the towel with the rest of the game being garbage time.
