ARIES Castro (#16) came alive in the second half to propel ACLC to a 91-63 victory over RYS in Group A of the YOU.C1000 Veteran Basketball Cup on Wednesday.
Castro finished with a game-high of 35 points – 27 of them coming after the interval at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.
The game was close in the opening half with ACLC leading 34-30 at halftime.
It was in the third stanza when they pulled away after outscoring their opponents 27-16 – with Castro accounting for 11 points.
M Laureano and J Comeros were the other two players in double figures for ACLC with 16 and 14 respectively in their first triumph in two matches.
On the other hand, Lim Chun Sian topscored for RYS with 12 points.
The duo of Lim Yih Luan and Ho Hee Lee added 10 each in a losing effort.
The second game saw Cuckoo secure their berth in the semi-finals after an 84-62 victory over Linktech in Group B.
Voon Yiew Ting put up a game-high of 28 points to lead Cuckoo.
Esmond Tan notched 16 and Kevin Tay chipped in 12 in the victory.
On the other side, Ramil Valdez led the way for Linktech with 22 points and Tjhi San Bun added 15 in the defeat.
They will next battle CJMM, who are also on two wins, for top spot in their group on Saturday at 8.30pm.
The tournament resumes with two more matches on Friday.
Fateh will face RYS at 7pm followed by a meeting between Linktech and PAR at 8.30pm
