CUCKOO used a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter to run away with a 73-63 win over CJMM in Group B of the YOU.C1000 Veteran Basketball Cup on Saturday.
Voon Yiew Ting led the way with a high of 20 points for Cuckoo while Esmond Tan added 18.
Kevin Tay notched 14 points and Liew Kok Fui was the other in double figures with 10.
On the other hand, CJMM were without key players Apollo Bibat and Reymundo Maquiraya for the matchup.
Al Jauhali topscored for them with 19 points - which included five treys while Lu Yong poured in 13 to a losing cause.
It was neck-and-neck throughout with Cuckoo carrying a 56-51 lead into the final frame at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.
It was over a four-minute span where CJMM were held scoreless - allowing Cuckoo to drop 13 unanswered points.
They finally got a trey to do courtesy of Jauhali on the 2:45 mark.
But the hole was too deep for them to climb out of us with the scoreboard reading 71-59 at that point.
The semi-finals will be contested on Monday.
GHK will face off against CJMM in the first match at 7pm.
The battle between Cuckoo and Fateh follows at 8.30pm.
