Hjh Anis strikes gold in Thailand

NATIONAL fencer Hjh Anis Sabrina Haji Yahya defied the odds to capture gold at the Air Force Open Fencing Championships in Thailand.

She defeated all top three seeds enroute to finish top of the podium at the Rannaphakat Building in Bangkok.

She ranked sixth out of 14 competitors in the first round after recording four wins and two losses.

Hjh Anis then began the knocked outs by taking down the ranked 11th contestant 15-7 in the round of 16.

She continued her form by dispatching Kaiyanun Yanisa 15-11 in the quarter-finals and defeated Semapakdi Choden 15-8 to advance to the title decider.

Hjh Anis, who turns 28 on November 13, then beat top seed Wongthongsri Paeempat 15-10 to clinch gold at the Nov 7-9 competition.

In addition, Hjh Anis also contested at the 31st CU Open Fencing Championships held from 24-26 October 2025 in Thailand.

She laced up with the Indonesian women's sabre team to win the bronze medal out of six teams.

The national fencer will now switch her focus to the ongoing 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Joining her at the Games is compatriot Md Haziq Asahrin, who will contest in the men's sabre event, and national fencing coach Rocky Poerawinata.

They will depart Brunei to the Saudi capital on November 13.
