BRUNEI weightlifters are targeting some new records at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.

The Sultanate will be represented by the trio of Mohammad Nashrul Hj Abu Bakar, Muhammad Hj Kamit and Nina Juna – all three having contested at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) in Riyadh last month.

Nashrul managed a new personal best with a total of 248 kg (snatch 113kg + clean & jerk 135kg) in the men's U65 kg category.

"I want to compete for a high placing as possible beating my personal best in the total,” said Nashrul in an interview with BruSports News.

"Currently, I'm at 248kg and I believe that 250-255kg is possible considering I could have gotten 253 kg if only I made 140 in the C&J at ISG,”he added.

Muhammad Hj Kamit, who is making his debut at the SEA Games, lifted a total of 245 kg (snatch 110 kg + clean & jerk 135 kg) in the men's 79 kg event.

He is looking to take on the challenge at the Thai capital this time around.

"I look forward to representing Brunei for weightlifting in my first ever SEA Games,”said Muhammad.

"It will be a challenging environment – but I'm excited for the challenge and will push the limits.

"I hope to set some new national records and raise the standards of weightlifting for Brunei. Ultimately, I look forward to the entire experience regardless of the final outcome," he added.

Nina is also on a high after recording a personal best in the women's 53kg at ISG.

She managed a total of 151 kg (snatch 62kg + clean & jerk 89kg).

The weightlifting events will begin on Dec 13.
