LOCAL mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Mohd Adib Pehin Sulaiman is aiming to make his mark in the MMA scene in the region.

With a record of two wins out of two and his latest victory being at the Singapore Fighting Championship (SFC) last month, there is nothing stopping the 26-year-old from achieving his dream.

“I want to make Brunei recognised in the combat scene around Asia and eventually the world,” said Adib or better known as Deep in a recent interview with BruSports News.

“So I am hoping to expand our gym and recruit more people into the scene,” he added.

His TKO win against Mohamad Addrien Fadly on September 23 was his first after his debut win at the Ultimate Beatdown in Johor earlier this year went to decision.

“I was really happy that I got the finish,” continued Deep, the head instructor at the Wolfpack Training Club which is based in the Tutong district.

“My opponent (Addrien) is a local Singaporean with a boxing background and he was real tough with strong punches but I was able to take it.

“I was also able to trade a few strikes with him. Obviously he is the more experienced boxer but overall it was an exciting experience to fight such a tough opponent,” he added.

Organised by Juggernaut Fighting Club, Singapore’s top boxing and MMA club, SFC’s main event on the night was professional boxing events, therefore all the fights were held in a boxing ring instead of MMA octagon cage.

Deep expressed that there was definitely a different feeling to it.

“Honestly it was a bit different to fight in a ring rather than a cage, but I was able to adapt to the setting and utilise my grapple training,” he said.

“I would like to thank my family and friends, training partners and especially my coach Eazy Anuar (Ahmad Faez Anuar) and also of course the enormous support from other Bruneians via social media before and after the fight,” concluded Deep.

Besides Deep, another top MMA fighter Mohd Norhidayat Abdul is the other to maintain an unbeaten record (3-0).
