BruPay ease past short-handed Walltique

BRUPAY made easy work of a short-handed Walltique 88-57 for their first win in Group A of the YOU.C1000 Fuzhou Cup quarter-finals last night.

Ahmad Termizi Hj Noordeen topscored for BruPay with 18 points while Kenny Lim added 17 in the win at the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association building in Berakas.

Md Zainul Ashyraf Hj Hussin and Jake Chong were also in double figures with 13 points each.

On the other hand, Walltique only had six player show up for the game with RJ Ludica putting up a game-high of 25 points.

Mike Nuguid was the other in double digit scoring with 13 to his name in a losing effort.

It was one way traffic from the start with BruPay running away to a 30-8 lead after the end of the first quarter.

Chong did most of the damage with nine points while Lim scored eight in the opening 10 minutes.

Lucida carried Walltique on his shoulders to score 14 points in the second frame to help get his side to within nine points.

BruPay remained up by double figures at 42-32 at halftime after a late freethrow by Zainul.

BruPay began the third quarter with a 10-0 run as Walltique failed to find the basket for over three minutes.

They got things sorted out and scored nine unanswered points of their own to stay within reach.

A timeout changed everything as BruPay went on to score the next 12 points and holding their opponents without a basket for over five minutes to extend the gap to 64-46 at the end of the third period.

It was more one way traffic in the decisive frame as BruPay built their advantage to as many as 34 points enroute to a comfortable win.

The second game saw Bandar Estates stay unbeaten with their eighth straight win after working for a 76-64 victory over Systematic Living in the same group.

The competition resumes today with Digimark taking on Linktech Group A of the veteran category at 7.15pm.

The second game pits Hui Huang against Beta Kitchen in Group B of the quarter-finals at 8.45pm.
