NATIONAL cueists Ahmad Taufiq Murni and Md Azim Hj Abu Bakar returned stronger after completing almost a month-long training stint in the Philippines.

The pair together with national coach Lim Tat Hwe headed to Quezon City from Oct 18 and only returned last Sunday.

They managed to get plenty of games under their belt including against some top-tier Filipino players as well as the Indonesian squad in preparations for the upcoming 30th SEA Games.

Lim felt that the daily sparring was exactly what they needed ahead of the biennial Games.

“We identified the strengths and weaknesses of our players during the sparring matches,” said Lim in an interview with BruSports News recently.

“So from the weeks of training, both of them know what they have to work on. They will just have to maintain their strengths and look to reduce their weaknesses for the remaining days before the competition,” he added.

The duo will compete in the 9-ball single, 10-ball single and 9-ball double events.

When asked on what targets have been set for them, Lim replied: “For Taufiq, definitely the target is a podium finish while for Azim, since it is his first appearance at the SEA Games, I need him to win his opening matches first.

“But if they were to be at their best during the competition, they stand a good chance,” he concluded.
