YAP Chun Ping hit the game-winning freethrows to secure HL Jaya a 79-77 victory over GS Spectra in Group D of the YOU.C1000 Cup on Tuesday.
It was anyone's game for the taking as HL Jaya led 57-53 going into the final stanza at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.
Despite trailing by 10 points, GS Spectra were gifted an opening and they clawed their way back after a flurry of turnovers by HL Jaya.
They took the lead after a jumper by Justine Lagasca to bring the scores to 77-76.
Kevin Tay was sent to the line the next play but he split his freethrows to see both teams deadlocked.
GS Spectra missed their attempt the next possession with 10 seconds to go.
HL Jaya grabbed the rebound and in turn, Yap was fouled with two seconds left where he converted both from the charity stripe.
GS Spectra never got the shot off as they turned it over on the inbounds.
Tay knocked down six three-pointers and finished with a game-high of 28 points for HL Jaya.
Darren Yap was the other in double figures with 16 points to his name in the triumph.
On the other hand, Lagasca led GS Spectra with 19 points while Florante Boadilla and Dariel Palma added 17 each in the defeat.
The second match saw GHK defeat Le Doux 40-32 in the women's category.
Gabrielle Chin and Chloe Chen dropped 13 points apiece to lead GHK.
Chieng Hei Yien was the only player in double figures for Le Doux with 12 in a losing effort.
