HL JAYA left it till late to grind out a 62-56 win over Tutong Basketball in Group D of the YOU.C1000 Cup on Monday.
Kevin Tay scored a game-high of 17 points to lead HL Jaya while Yap Chun Ping added 14 in their third straight victory.
On the other hand, Edwin Oei was the only player in double figures for Tutong with 14 to his name in the defeat.
HL Jaya had opened up a 46-41 lead going into the final stanza at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.
They stayed in front 48-47 before both teams went scoreless over a span four minutes.
Neither could get the ball through the net despite getting decent looks.
Points were finally added to the scoreboard after Tay scored off a fastbreak with four minutes left to play.
The game headed down the wire as both sides traded baskets.
Tay created some breathing space as he completed a three-point play to make it 58-52 with a minute to go.
Tutong stayed within reach but a trey courtesy of Lim Jih Shyang with 28 seconds left put the game to bed.
