Golden Girls surge to second win

GOLDEN GIRLS made it two wins out of two in the Propel Women's Cup after defeating Le Doux 52-38 on Saturday.

They used an 11-0 run over a stretch of over six minutes in the fourth quarter to surge to victory at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.

Tong Sing Ching came up huge for Golden Girls with a game-high of 19 points.

Chris Tan also had a good shooting night to finish with 13 points, which included three triples.

On the other hand, Le Doux had distributed scoring with three players in double figures.

Marsya Rashidi led the way with 12 points while the duo of Gabrielle Chin and Chloe Chen added 11 and 10 respectively.

Golden Girls had led by as many as 13 points in the second stanza.

It was a physical affair and Tong did most of the damage as the they stayed ahead 29-20 at halftime.

Golden Girls scored five unanswered points late in the third to pull away.

But Marsya responded with a layup before hitting a jumper from the top of the key as the buzzer sounded to cut the deficit to 37-31 going into the decisive frame.

Le Doux got to within three points and it all went downhill from there.

Tan knocked down a trey to create a 42-36 gap with seven minutes left in the game.

It sparked a series of 11 points without reply. They attacked on the break and got it done for inside the paint.

With time on their side, they took it slow on each possession to protect their lead.

Chen ended the drought for Le Doux with layup with 36 seconds left.

However, it proved to be a mere consolation as they slumped to their second defeat.

The second match saw Happy Claw Machine Corners (HCMC) edge Yokohama 49-45.
