Good outing for athletics team in Sibu

THE national athletics team finished third overall at the Sibu Open Track and Field Championships.

The contingent of nine achieved the feat after amassing two gold, two silver and one bronze medals over the weekend.

Md Noor Firdaus Ar-Rasyid Hj Md Idris was the best performer after finishing at the top of the podium in both of his events.

He sprinted to gold in the men's 100m with a time of 10.67 seconds.

Brunei's fastest man made it a double after he won the 200m event after crossing the line on 21.54s.

He then teamed up with Abdul Aqil Abd Kadir, Muhd Haziq Abdul Rahman Jailani and Abd Rahim Abdullah to bag the silver in the men's 4x100m event with a time of 42.25s.

Brunei Team B, comprising of Abdul Harif Buah, Muhd Ammar Safwan, Muhd Hassanul Fikri and Daniel Riveera Layang followed behind with bronze - 1.85s behind.

Meanwhile, Maziah Mahusin marked her return to competition with a second place finish in the women's 100m event.

The 2012 London Olympian claimed the silver after clocking 13.76s.
