Bronze for Wong at International Wushu Invitational

NATIONAL wushu athlete Hosea Wong Zheng Yu did the country proud after a bronze medal finish at the International Wushu Invitational 2024 in China.

He managed a score of 9.646 points to place third in the men's taijiquan event at the Culture and Sports Indoor Stadium in Jiangshu on Thursday.

Malaysia's Wong Zi Hong bagged the gold in the field of nine athletes with his score of 9.683 points.

Choe Hyeongjun of South Korea took the runners-up spot after tallying 9.660 points.

Walid Lachkar was the other Brunei athlete that contested at the April 21-26 event.

National wushu coach Li Hui was delighted by their showing.

"We are satisfied with their results," said Li Hui to BruSports News.

"They have been working hard and we are proud of them.

"They are continuously improving under coach Zhao (Chunjie)," he added.

Next on the calendar is the 1st Brunei Invitational Wushu Championships which is scheduled to be held from May 2-5 at Pusat Belia.
