Basma strikes silver at World Cup

BASMA Lachkar delivered yet another podium finish on the world stage.

The national wushu athlete secured a silver medal in the women's taijijian at the 4th Taolu World Cup in Haikou, Hainan Province, China on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old was awarded a score of 9.746 points for her performance to place just behind Japan's Shiho Saito with 9.773 points at the Wuyuan River Gymnasium.

Singapore's Zeanne Law completed the podium with 9.743 points.

Basma had started her campaign with a fifth-place finish in the women's taijiquan event with 9.716 points on Tuesday.

Her younger brother Walid managed a fourth-place finish in the men's changquan event after tallying 9.726 points.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Adi Salihin Roslan narrowly missed out on a podium finish after placing fourth placing fourth in both his events.

He tallied 9.720 points in the men's nanquan and followed that up with 9.740 points in the men's nangun event.

He had managed a bronze and silver respectively in the events in the third edition two years ago.

Only the top-eight athletes from the World Wushu Championships held in Brazil in September last year qualified for the two-day event in China.
