Brunei Wushu team excel in Oceania meet

IT WAS medals galore for the national wushu team at the recently concluded Oceania International Invitational Wushu Kung Fu Championships 2026 in Brisbane, Australia.

Brunei finished fourth overall in the 14-country standings after securing a total of seven gold and six silver medals at the May 21 – 24 competition.

Meagan Keasberry was the biggest winner with two gold medals.

She won the women's taijiquan (1st) with her score of 8.900 points in the field of four participants.

Zhou Ziyan of New Zealand and India's Rajshree Khoirom followed on 8.655 and 8.620 points respectively.

She finished top of the podium again in the women's taijijian (1st) with 8.915 points ahead of the same opponents.

It was a one-two finish for siblings Emilia Chua Yee Qing and Lauren Chua Yu Qing in the women's taijiquan (3rd).Emilia notched 8.925 points while her sister 0.15 points behind.

It was the same in the women's taijishan (3rd) event with Emilia finishing with 8.740 points and Lauren 0.035 points behind.

Basma Lachkar won gold in the women's taijijian event with 9.730 points out of nine contestants.

Malaysians Mandy Cebelle Chen and Kwan Yong Xin followed with 9.715 and 9.700 points respectively.

She also notched a silver medal in the women's taijiquan even after amassing 9.715 points.She lost out to China's Xu Sixian by 0.015 points.

Mandy Cebelle snatched the bronze with 9.710 points in the field of 10 contestants.

Mohd Adi Salihin Roslan finished top of the podium in the men's nangun event with 9.725 points.

Singapore's Randall Lim followed in second with 9.710 points while Bryan Ti of Malaysia claimed third a further 0.500 points behind.

He took the runner-up spot in the men's nanquan event with 9.725 points finishing behind China's Liu Yicheng by 0.030 points.

Randall completed the podium with his score of 9.065 points.

Qayden Yii Ming Yi claimed the gold in men's daoshu (1st) event with 8.930 points.

He also took second place in the men's changquan (1st) event with his score of 8.405 points.

Zhang Villa Bieshu of New Zealand finished top of the podium with 8.600 points while Zhou Zhichin of Australia placed third on 8.290 points.

The other silver medal was courtesy of Walid Lachkar after placing second in the men’s daoshu event on 9.705 points.

He lost only to China's Zhang Danfeng by 0.45 points while Clement Ting of Malaysia bagged the bronze with 9.700 points out of six participants.

He also contested in the men's changquan event but finished seventh with 8.990 points out of 12 participants.
