THE national pencak silat team produced a good showing at the recently concluded Pre-33rd SEA Games competition in Songkhla, Thailand.
The Sultanate managed a haul of one silver and two bronze medals at the Oct 10 – 15 event contested at Suwannawong Gymnasium in Hat Yai.
The men's seni regu team made up of Muhammad Syafiq Haji Sufri, Ak Md Azhar Nasrullah Pg Haji Md Yasrizam Ayob and Md Haziq Aqwa Md Iman Safwan bagged the silver medal after losing 9.925 – 9.910 against the Philippines in the final.
They began their campaign with a 9.920 – 9.915 victory over hosts Thailand in the quarter-finals.
Brunei then secured their berth in the title decider after withdrawal by the Vietnam team.
The two bronze medals were courtesy of Muhammad Ali Saifullah Abdullah Muhd Suhaimin (men's seni tunggal) and Mohammad Izzammuddin Muhd Taha (men’s tanding class A 45-50kg).
Nur Wasiqah Aziemah Rosihan also contested in the women's seni tunggal event but fell in the quarter-finals against Malaysia.
The 2025 SEA Games is scheduled to be held from December 9-20 across Bangkok as well as in the Chonburi and Songkhla provinces.
This is the seventh time that Thailand will be the hosts and the first that the two provinces will serve as the main host cities outside of the capital.
A total of 54 sports will be contested at the biennial multi-sporting event.
