THE national basketball team came from behind to stun hosts Kota Kinabalu 69-65 in their opening match of the Borneo City Cup on Saturday.
Jaron On had the hot hands for Brunei finishing with a team-high of 21 points - shooting 50% from the field.
Jonathan Lim added 13 points and Daniel Quirk was the other in double figures with 11 in the victory.
Marcus Quick struggled from the field to finish with eight points but hauled down a massive 25 rebounds.
On the other side, Calvin produced a game-high of 22 points to lead KK.
Clement Chang was the other in double figures with 10 in the loss.
KK opened up a 26-18 lead at the end of the first period at the Luyang Multipurpose Hall.They remained in front at 42-37 at halftime.
It was in the third that Brunei turned things around with a 9-0 run to put them ahead 48-46 midway through.
They hung on and closed out with a 52-50 advantage going into the final stanza.
They built that lead to their largest at 65-57 with 2:25 left on the clock after a Lim layup.
With both teams in the penalty, they were made to earn their points from the stripe.
KK got to within a single possession late on before On was foul with 12 seconds to go.
He knocked down his first and despite missing the second, Marcus secured the offensive board.
The latter was then fouled with over five seconds to play and knocked down both his charities to ensure Brunei claim the win.
They will next face Miri on Sunday at 1.30pm.
