THE national basketball team secured the Borneo City Cup title for the third time after thrashing Miri 85-44 in their second game on Sunday.

They won the competition for the first time in 2011 and the most recent in 2018 - ending an eight-year wait.

Brunei can complete a sweep when they take on Labuan on Monday.

Marcus Quirk finished with a team-high of 15 points, which included a couple of dunks, and eight rebounds.

Jake Chong added 11 while the pair of Lim Liang Wei and Daniel Quirk notched 10 points each in the lopsided victory.

On the other hand, Zhong Chen Wee dropped a game-high of 17 points to pace Miri on the defeat.

The Sultanate started out with 15 unanswered points and never looked back at the Luyang Multipurpose Hall in KK.

Miri had a spurt with a 7-0 run early in the second period but that was as close as it got.

Brunei jumped out to a 48-25 advantage at halftime and dominated the rest of the game with all 12 players on the roster seeing minutes.
