Easyway shutdown Wan Sing for opening win

EASYWAY got off to a winning start after a 91-60 win over Wan Sing in Group B of the YOU.C1000 Cup on Saturday.

They had distributed scoring with 11 out of 12 players getting on the scoreboard at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.

Darren Lee finished with a team-high of 13 points to pace Easyway.

Kelvin Chai contributed 11 and Jake Chong was the other in double figures with 10 in the victory.

On the other hand, Alsaid Jauhali produced a game-high of 15 points for Wan Sing.

Asi Medina and Leonil Espina poured in 13 and 11 respectively in the loss.

Easyway struggled in the early going missing plenty of shots from the outside.

Wan Sing used an 8-0 run to close to within 16-14 at the end of the opening period.

They tied the game during the first possession of the second before Easyway capped off eight unanswered points.

They attacked on the break and eventually brought the lead up to 33-18 with 2:32 to the interval.

Easyway finished the half strongly with Devon Lim being a spark off the bench with six straight points and a 47-27 halftime lead.

Wan Sing switched to man-to-man defence and they started chipping away the 23-point deficit.

Back-to-back treys by Jauhali brought them back to life at 52-35 leading to an Easyway timeout.

He then found Medina the next possession to complete a three-point play.

They eventually got themselves to within 59-46 going into the final stanza.

Easyway regained the momentum by attacking the basket and not settling for outside jumpers.

They soon got their advantage back to over 20 points and were never threatened resulting a comfortable win.

The earlier game saw CJMM thrash Minimau 94-18 in the women's category.

Minimau will be back in action as they take on Propel x Teik Goldsmith at 7pm on Sunday.

The second match pits Tech G against Fateh in Group B at 8.45pm.
