PROPEL x Teik Goldsmith hung on for an 85-79 overtime victory over Amboy's Cup to top Group A of the YOU.C1000 Cup on Sunday.
With Ben Sim absent for the matchup, Grant Goddard came up big for Propel x Teik Goldsmith with a game-high of 29 points.
Alvin Goh had a hot start – with 13 first quarter points - to finish with 21 while the duo of Esmond Tan and Voon Yiew Ting put up 13 in the win.
On the other side, Jomarie Corpuz topscored for Amboy's Cup with 16 points.
The pair of Gary Antonio and Reymundo Maquiraya notched 15 apiece in the loss.
Propel x Teik Goldsmith got off to the better start and led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.
But Amboy's Cup started to dictate the pace of the match midway through and chipped away at the deficit.
They played at a faster tempo to attack on the break and trailed 40-33 at halftime.
It was a physical affair as Amboy's Cup stayed aggressive and they got to within a single field goal.
They were still behind 58-53 going into the decisive period and things got worth as they were already in penalty with 8:23 left in regulation.
It was 64-61 midway through after Corpuz went coast to coast for a layup.
The game was down to one point game after Maquiraya connected on a baseline jumper the next possession.
It was tied at 67-67 as Corpuz capitalised on a Propel x Teik Goldsmith turnover with under three minutes left.
Both sides traded baskets and Propel x Teik Goldsmith were in a good position to finish off the game.
Goh hit both from the charity stripe to make it 74-69 with 37 seconds left.
Elvin Requintin then took it all the way to complete a layup eight seconds later.
Goh was then taken out at midcourt with no foul called and Maquiraya took a quick three with no hesitation to tie the game at 74-74 with 20 seconds on the clock.
Propel x Teik Goldsmith took a timeout and went for the win but Goddard had his shot rim out to see the match head to overtime.
Both sides traded baskets in the early going of the extra five-minute period.
Tan hit a three-pointer to make it 81-78 with 3:30 left and Cleverson Baguioro turned the ball over the next trip up.
Goddard was then sent to line where be made both freethrows to make it a two-possession game.
Amboy's Cup couldn't get their offence to flow and Propel x Teik Goldsmith got things done the foul line to seal the win.
