GHK Motors got off to a winning start in the YOU.C1000 Veteran Cup after running away with a 99-77 victory over Grand Bean on Sunday.
They had distributed scoring with five player sin double figures.
Ben Sim led the way with 23 points while Vince Soon added 16.
The pair of Kenny Lim and Kho Leang Teck posted 14 points apiece while Lim Boon Teck chipped in 11 in the triumph.
On the other hand, Jauhali led everyone with a game-high of 34 points for Grand Bean.
Valdez was the other in double figures with 14 to losing cause.
GHK attacked with pace and quickly jumped out to a double digit lead at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.
They were in control as they opened up a 28-16 lead going into the second frame.
Grand Bean finally settled down and eventually closed to within eight points.
But that was as close as they got as GHK regrouped to extend their advantage to 51-36 at halftime.
Jauhali tried to keep his side within reach as he heated up in the third stanza.
He notched 16 points, including four treys, in the 10-minute frame.
However, it was all in vain as GHK were up 80-57 heading into the fourth and were never really troubled the rest of the way.
Over in the second match, CJMM shrugged off a slow start for a 93-63 victory over Linktech.
Alsaid Jauhali posted a game-high of 24 points to pace CJMM.
The duo of Reymundo Maquiraya and Roldan Binas poured in 18 points each.
On the other side, Loo Yau Wai and Leslie Chia dropped 11 apiece to lead Linktech.
Linktech stuck their noses in front 16-15 at the end of the first period.
They went cold from the field and were outscored 32-10 in the next 10 minutes to see CJMM run out comfortable winners.
A total of six teams are vying for top hokours in this year's competition.
It will resume with two more matches on Tuesday.
Cuckoo will take on CJMM at 7pm while the second game pits Kinderflair Basketball Team against Grand Bean at 8.45pm.
