CJMM stayed unbeaten in the YOU.C1000 Veteran Basketball Cup after edging Kinderflair Basketball Team 87-84 on Sunday.
Kenny Lim poured in a game-high of 36 points to power CJMM at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.
The duo of Reymundo Maquiraya and Alsaid Jauhali each contributed 14 points in the victory.
On the other side, Ryan Francisco topscored for Kinderflair with 22 points.
Wisley Tumamao added 16 and Jason Oliveros was the other in double figures with 15 to a losing cause.
It was neck-and-neck in the opening frame as both teams were deadlocked at 23-23 going into the second stanza.
The second quarter saw CJMM pull away as they outscored their opponents 31-16 to open up a 54-39 halftime lead.
Lim had the hot hands as he dropped 17 points in the 10-minute period – including three baskets from behind the arc.
CJMM kept their position as they scored almost half of their points from the freethrow line in the third quarter.
Kinderflair trimmed the deficit to 74-65 going into the final frame.
They got it done from range and closed the gap to within two possessions.
Francisco was their leading man with nine in the period but eventually fell short in their first defeat in two matches.
The earlier game saw Cuckoo win via walkover after a no-show by Grand Bean.
Two more matches will be contested on Tuesday.
GHK Motors will be up against Kinderflair at 7pm while the second match pits CJMM against Grand Bean at 8.45pm.
