TABUAN A kicked off their title defence in the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Under-16 Elite Youth Cup with a 6-0 victory over Bang Dalam in the competition's opener this morning.
Md Aminuddin Hj Masri netted a hat-trick with Md Shafiq Hidayat Al Azim Shahrizam notching a brace and Muhd Hakeme Yazid Said contributing a goal in the win at NFABD House’s Artificial Turf.
Muhd Hakeme put Tabuan A in front after a ninth minute header off a corner kick, and Md Aminuddin doubled their lead with a strong shot from inside the box after a cut-back from the left.
Tabuan A, who will be representing Brunei at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Under-15 Championship in July and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Championship qualifiers in September, were well organised and had good link-up play – looking comfortable on the ball and moving it around with ease.
Bang Dalam gave their opponents too much time and space on the ball.
They were made to pay again when Md Aminuddin scored his second goal after running onto a through ball from the right and slotting the ball past Bang Dalam goalkeeper Md Zulikram Muhd Juis.
The defending champions continued their pressure on Bang Dalam at the start of the second half and hit the post twice.
Md Shafiq made it 4-0 in the 48th minute scoring at the far post. He added another after heading home a cross from the left before completing his hat-trick after a one-on-one with Md Zulikram in the dying seconds.
Other games saw Projek Ikan Pusu (PIP) and Rimba Star play out a 0-0 draw at the Bengkurong Community Field, Tabuan B beat Murai Junior FC 2-0 at the Sg Kebun Sports Complex Field A and BTC Red Star edge Tabuan C 2-1 at the Sg Kebun Sports Complex Field B.
The tournament continues on Sunday and will see Tabuan A take on Tabuan B at NFABD House’s Artificial Turf and Besa FC face Parma Junior FC at the Sg Kebun Sports Complex Field B.
The Sg Kebun Sports Complex Field A will play host to the match between PIP and BTC Red Star while Kilanas FC and Murai Junior FC meet at the Bengkurong Community Field.
All games are scheduled for 8.30am.
