KASUKA FC are looking at playing more high intensity games to prepare themselves for their AFC Cup debut next month.

The Brunei side will be up against reigning Lao Premier League Champions Lao Toyota FC in the preliminary round in an away fixture at Vientiane on May 19.

Kasuka assistant coach Hj Limi pointed out that they have been training since the beginning of the year and were only able to put up some friendly games recently following the implementation of Level 5 (New Normal) COVID-19 de-escalation plan last month.

“Training has been going on since January but for now we are looking at having a lot of high intensity friendly matches,” said Hj Limi in an interview with BruSports News at the sidelines of a friendly match against Indera SC on Saturday.

“This is so that we can spot our mistakes to be corrected and be ready for the upcoming game,” he added.

It will not be an easy task for Kasuka as Lao Toyota have the advantage as the Lao Premier League has started and they would have a handful of competitive games under their belt before the meeting.

When asked on their expectations, Hj Limi replied: “We hope to win. There is only game that we need to make it into the group stages but it won’t be easy with Laos being the home team.”

Kasuka managed to have a friendly game against the national team on March 26 where they lost 4-0.

They didn’t have a full side as some players were called up for national duty.

Several players then featured for the BSL (Brunei Super League) All-Stars, which played out to a 1-1 draw against the Wasps four days later.

“It was good for the team and players that got the call up for both the national team and play for the (Brunei Super League) All-Star team. That is definitely good exposure for the team,” said Hj Limi.

“The gelling so far has been good for the team but there are still some things that require tweaking that’s why we need more games,” he added.

When asked about how they will adjust their training schedule through the month of Ramadhan, Hj Limi said: “We will undergo training every night.

“And have friendly games every week until we are set to go,” he concluded.
