BRUNEI’S top esports teams are off to the WESG (World Electronic Sports Games) 2018 SEA Finals in Kuala Lumpur.

A total of 33 members, competing in six games, will fly the flag for Brunei at the Dec 13-16 event.

Team Revival (Dota 2), Exidium (CS:GO), Unikats (CS:GO Women) and Fantastic 6 (Vain Glory) will contest in the team events while Fadhil Majid (Hearthstone) and Rahman Yassin (Starcraft II) individually.

They were selected after coming out on top during the WESG SEA Brunei National Qualifiers held from Sept 29-30 organised by BruGames Management Services.

Hawaii Yee, the Managing Director of BruGames, hopes that this event will be a good eye opener for the gamers.

“The main purpose of the trip is to gain exposure. Most of them are first timers competing outside of the country except for the CS:GO team,” said Yee in an interview with BruSports News before departure to the Malaysian capital this morning.

“They have been constantly training to improve on communication and team work.

“It will be a tough though because the other teams from the region are are full-time except for us,” he added.

“But we are still hoping to put up a good fight and show that we are able to compete against them,” continued Yee.

The top four for each game will advance to the US$5.5 million WESG World Grand Finals which is slated to be held in China in March next year.

Besides this, Yee has his sights on getting Brunei to the SEA Games in the Philippines next year, where esports is set to make its debut.

So far only Mobile Legends has been confirmed and more are expected to be named in the upcoming days.

“We are trying to prove something and that we are able to compete,” said Yee, who is looking to nurture more players for the future through BruGames.

“We are also trying to change this negative mindset of how it can be a unhealthy lifestyle playing games for hours.

“But there is always a way to strike a balance and hopefully we will be able to change that and get more support,” he continued.

Yee concluded by thanking sponsors Pro Builder S/B, Kenview Enterprise S/B and Aewon for their contributions to the contingent.
