NATIONAL sprinter Md Noor Firdaus Hj Md Idris aims to become better after his performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The 24-year-old finished his race in Heat 5 of the men's 200m event on Tuesday with a time of 21.83s - maintaining his performance from two years ago.

His personal best, which is also the national record, remains at 21.39s which he set at the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia.

"I'm quite unsatisfied about my performance but on the bright side I managed to maintain my timing and season best after going almost two years without competition," said Firdaus in an interview with BruSports News yesterday.

"There were no sports activities for almost the whole of 2020 because of the pandemic and we only started to focus after the de-escalation phase," he added.

"I will keep on training as I have more goals to achieve and there are still a lot of records to be broken," he added.

"I will keep grinding and do the best I can to keep surprising and surpass my limit," he added.

It was a dream come true for Firdaus on becoming an Olympian. He reiterated that being at the Olympics was still surreal.

"It felt unbelievable and it was mesmerising. It felt like a dream come true and of course if there were fans and supporters in the stadium then it would have been more amazing," he said.

"The best memory is I got is the chance to meet some world class and top ranking athletes in the world such (Andre) de Grasse (Canadian sprinter), Noah Lyles (American sprinter), (Wayde) van Niekerk (South African sprinter) and Karsten Warholm (Norwegian hurdler).

"I got to warmup with them on the same track and also eat at the same dining hall. The best may be able to take a picture with world record holder and gold medalist Warholm," added Firdaus.

When asked on what he would like to say to his fellow supporters, Firdaus replied: "I want to thank everyone for always believing in me and supporting me. I'm also thankful to those who constantly give me positivity and motivation.

"This is the reason why I'm so proud to represent Brunei Darussalam," he concluded.
